A kind of dream house, if you will. This came out of my imagination, without a photo reference. It is a made-up place, but a place nonetheless.\nI use paper and fabric on top of sealed and cradled birchwood. I paint the paper, which is a thick, 120-pound, manila pattern paper. This is used in the apparel manufacturing industry. The fabrics are cotton bolt fabric that I carefully chose for its interesting patterns.\nAll the pieces from this series, which I have titled \"Rock \u0026amp; Refuge,\" come from residential architecture in Joshua Tree, CA, especially homes that were built close to the boulders by the National Park. I called the series Rock \u0026amp; Refuge because Joshua Tree is known as an artist's refuge to many, where everything slows: the mind, body, and the love affair with LA that has us hyperventilating and out of breath from being chased by everyday demands and lofty endeavors. It is a kind of Deadwood town where unique exteriors are built seemingly without codes or restrictions - a place of freedom and safety. For me, it was a home away from home and a quiet meditation.
