Divya began making art at Miriam’s Kitchen’s After Breakfast Art Therapy Studio Program. Miriam’s Kitchen is an organization in Washington D.C. committed to alleviating chronic homelessness.
Divya was born in Sri Lanka and moved to the U.S. when he was 29 years old. He gained citizenship while working in maintenance in New York City and moved to Washington D.C., where he is currently living with homelessness. Since 2007, Divya has created art daily at Miriam’s Kitchen. He says, “I make art because it relaxes my mind.”
The therapeutic nature of creating art soothes Divya and helps him remember various scenery and landscapes he has observed.read more
