Rudy was born and raised in Whittier, California in the late 60s; a time of struggle for racial equality. When he moved to Northern California, he endured a traumatizing event that ended in his father dying in his arms. The rage and sorrow that this experienced caused, Rudy shares, has forever motivated his future.
While Rudy has overcome many external adversities, he finds that many of his struggles are predominantly internal. When these occur, he actually finds his thoughts overcome with serene yet vivid clarity. Rudy shares, “This is where I find my most compelling images. This is how I can tell my story—through images from my mind as a way to release my inner feelings."
Rudy is currently an artist at Hospitality House, a shelter, drop-in center, employment program and community arts studio located in San Francisco's Tenderloin District.
