Liminal Spaces 2

"In my process to simplify my experience of nature, I first brushed out large forms with an acrylic wash. I let the marks left by this wash guide my imagination and next steps in applying pastel. Instead of using typical local colors and careful, methodical strokes, I expressed my experience of nature through particular color relationships and gestural mark-making. This way I hope to access the heart of the human experience. In this painting, a scene once inspired by ocean morphed into a field of trees and fence posts. Eventually it became a painting about balance and color, and less about a specific place."
